Reclaim Our Sidewalks from Reckless Scooter Use

San Francisco's sidewalks are becoming hazardous zones for pedestrians. Electric scooters are creating unsafe conditions that threaten community safety and accessibility. We aim to do something about it.

The Growing Threat to Pedestrian Safety

California law is clear: riding a motorized scooter, stand-up or sit-down, on sidewalks is illegal (CVC §21235(g); 15 mph cap §22411). In San Francisco, this rule is routinely unenforced, turning sidewalks into risk zones and fueling preventable collisions.

Over 200 pedestrian injuries were reported last year due to electric scooter incidents in San Francisco. Our sidewalks are no longer safe for children, seniors, and people with disabilities.

Our Mission is to Protect San Francisco Sidewalks

We are advocating for comprehensive policy reforms that prioritize pedestrian safety and create designated zones for electric scooter use away from walking paths.

OUR PLAN

Make the law visible.
Clear, consistent messaging everywhere, so everyone knows sidewalk scooter riding is illegal under California law.

Help people report fast.
A one-tap 311 link/QR to document sidewalk riding and dangerous spots in seconds, building public proof.

Hold offenders responsible.
Push SFPD to enforce the law and cite sidewalk riding, running periodic, high-visibility enforcement in the worst corridors and publicly sharing results.

Work with operators on fixes.
Urge shared-scooter companies to curb sidewalk riding through rider notifications, penalties/bans for repeat offenders, and slow-mode in clearly defined pedestrian zones.
